CAF Slaps FKF with $50,000 Fine Over Kasarani Safety Lapses

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) USD 50,000 (approximately KSh 6.5 million) following multiple safety and security breaches during the CHAN 2024 qualifier between Kenya and Morocco at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The breaches reportedly included overcrowding, poor crowd control, and failure to ensure adequate emergency and evacuation protocols, posing risks to both fans and players.

In addition to the fine, CAF has issued a stern warning to FKF: if Kenya fails to improve safety standards at future home fixtures, the country risks having its matches moved to alternative venues outside Kenya.

The incident comes just days after CAF froze ticket sales for all upcoming games at Kasarani until safety improvements are implemented. The move has sparked debate among fans and stakeholders over stadium management, with many calling for urgent reforms to ensure spectator safety.

The FKF is yet to release an official statement addressing the fine and outlining corrective measures ahead of Kenya’s upcoming home match against Zambia.

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina has said regarding being charged with terrorism

What She Said About Terrorism Charges

MP Njeri Maina has strongly condemned the state’s use of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) to detain young protesters. She voiced serious concerns over the state branding dissenting youth as “terrorists,” noting the alarming detention practices:

  • She highlighted that those charged under POTA can be held without trial for up to 360 days, making it a tool of prolonged detention.

  • She called it “a glaring concern” that young people—including those from underprivileged backgrounds—are being remanded in maximum-security prisons, where they’re isolated, burdened by harsh conditions, and mixed with convicted offenders.
  • Maina criticized the use of Kahawa Law Courts, which were originally established for high-profile anti-terrorism cases with international support, to process ordinary protest-related cases—thus bypassing the ordinary judicial system.
  • In her view, this approach—criminalizing legitimate civic expression—constitutes an affront to the Constitution, particularly Article 37, which guarantees the right to protest
  • Her Actions to Support Gen-Z Protesters

Beyond her public statements, Njeri Maina has taken concrete steps to assist detained protesters:

    • She’s offered pro bono legal representation to over 150 Gen-Z individuals arrested during the June 25 and Saba Saba (July 7) protests.

    • She has been physically present at Kahawa Law Courts almost daily, representing detainees from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., often with minimal breaks.
    • Maina launched and continues to lead a fundraising campaign to cover bail costs—ranging from KSh 50,000 to KSh 300,000—for protesters whose families can’t afford it. She clarified that the funds are being raised transparently via designated pay-bill and MPESA numbers.
    • As of mid-July 2025, her campaign had raised approximately KSh 997,527 from Kenyans and the diaspora

Toxic Lyrikali Responds to Tipsy Gee’s Collaboration Claims

The Kenyan music scene is no stranger to public spats, but the latest exchange between Toxic Lyrikali and Tipsy Gee has caught the attention of Gengetone fans.

Earlier this week, Tipsy Gee alleged that Toxic Lyrikali had refused to collaborate with him — a move that, in Tipsy’s telling, suggested the rapper was unwilling to work with certain artists.

Toxic Lyrikali has now addressed the matter head-on, denying the claim and accusing Tipsy Gee of clout chasing. According to Toxic, the story was a calculated move meant to “paint me as rude and snobby” in the public eye, despite there being no such refusal.

“That’s not how it happened,” Toxic said. “The narrative being pushed is false. This is just for attention.”

While the two artists have crossed paths in the industry before, there’s no record of a formal collaboration between them — and after this public dispute, fans are unsure if there ever will be.

Reactions online have been mixed. Some listeners are siding with Toxic, saying he has the right to choose collaborations without pressure. Others believe Tipsy Gee may have been speaking his truth and that the disagreement highlights deeper tensions in the music scene.

For now, both camps remain firm in their positions. Whether this situation ends in reconciliation, a diss track, or simply fades away remains to be seen.

One thing is certain — Gengetone fans will be watching closely.

Pritty Vishy Opens Up About Her Cosmetic Surgery Journey

Kenyan influencer Pritty Vishy, 23, has undergone a series of cosmetic procedures including a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), tummy tuck, and liposuction. In a candid video posted to her YouTube channel, she appears in a hospital bed wearing a medical gown, openly discussing her post-surgery recovery. Her transparency has sparked conversations online about body image, self-confidence, and the growing popularity of cosmetic enhancements among young African influencers.

“This was not an easy decision,” she says in the video. “I knew what I was getting into, but it’s still scary when you wake up with drains in your body and can’t even sit properly. But I did this for me, not for clout or anyone else.”

Vishy shared that the recovery process has been intense. She detailed how drain tubes, tight compression garments, and mobility restrictions have become part of her daily routine. Despite the discomfort, she emphasized that she does not regret the decision.

“I want to feel confident in my skin. I’ve been judged for my body for so long — shamed, ridiculed — and now I’m reclaiming it on my own terms.”

The influencer also opened up about the backlash she expected — and is already receiving — from critics who accuse her of promoting unrealistic beauty standards. In response, she stated:

“I’m not telling anyone to go under the knife. I’m just showing my journey. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to watch. But for those who are considering it, I want them to see the real side — not just the glam shots.”

Since posting the video, fans and followers have flooded the comments with a mix of support, concern, and curiosity. Many praised her for being transparent, while others expressed worry about the risks involved in undergoing multiple surgeries at once.

This marks a bold chapter in Pritty Vishy’s public life, where she continues to embrace vulnerability and controversy in equal measure — a trait that has kept her in the spotlight since her rise to fame in Kenya’s digital entertainment scene.

EACC Survey: KWS Tops List of Most Expensive Bribes in Public Service

A new survey by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has revealed that Kenyans seeking services at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) are paying the highest average bribes in the country — an estimated Sh200,000 per bribe.

According to the 2023 National Ethics and Corruption Survey, the KWS accounted for the largest share of national bribes at 35.73%, far ahead of other institutions. It was followed by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), where the average bribe was Sh47,129, and the National Treasury Pensions Department, with an average of Sh40,000.

The report highlights a troubling pattern of deep-rooted corruption in key government agencies, with citizens being forced to pay hefty bribes to access public services. The EACC has called for urgent reforms in the most affected institutions and stricter enforcement of anti-corruption laws.

The survey raises fresh questions about accountability in the public sector, especially in departments tasked with handling citizens’ pensions, social security, and land conservation.

🚨 DCI Summons Cleophas Malala Over Helicopter Landing Incident

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Cleophas Malala, Deputy Leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), to appear before investigators in Kakamega no later than Friday, August 8, 2025, to record a statement about a controversial helicopter landing incident.

Incident date: Saturday, August 2, 2025, during halftime of a national secondary school football final between Musingu High School and St. Joseph’s Kitale at Mumias Sports Complex.

A private helicopter carrying Malala landed on the pitch mid‑game, prompting panic among thousands of students, teachers, officials, and fans, according to eyewitnesses.

Police view: Western Region Police Commander Issa Mohamud described the landing as a “reckless, irresponsible and national embarrassment,” emphasizing it wasn’t an emergency but appeared to be political showmanship at the expense of public safety.

Legal violations: The act allegedly breached the Civil Aviation Act, Ministry of Education safety protocols, Basic Education Act, and sections of the Penal Code on public safety and trespass.

Investigation: A joint probe is underway involving the DCI, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), and the Ministry of Education.

If investigators find that Malala and the pilot violated aviation rules or endangered lives, they may face criminal charges including endangering safety, trespass, and violation of aviation regulations. Sanctions under the Civil Aviation Act could include fines or imprisonment.

This is not the first time Malala has been summoned by the authorities. In May 2025, he faced DCI questioning over a political rally in Western Kenya that allegedly led to clashes and the seizure of three of his vehicles.

Senate Summons CS John Mbadi & CS Wycliffe Oparanya over Retirement Benefit Delays

The Senate Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare has issued a fresh summons for August 20, 2025, compelling both Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, John Mbadi, and Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs, Wycliffe Oparanya, to appear before Senators. This follows a pattern of previous no-shows that has sparked escalating frustration among lawmakers.

Key Issues 🔑

  • Kenya Railways Corporation retirees have been awaiting pension payouts for years.

  • KEMRI (Kenya Medical Research Institute) former staff remain unpaid.

  • The one-off honorarium for ex-councillors, approved in 2018, is still undelivered.

  • Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) ex-employees are owed KES 204 million in terminal benefits and savings—some pending for nearly three decades.

  • Mbadi’s office reportedly responded to a petition with advice to dismiss it on legal grounds—a move that drew ire from Senators.
  • Committee Chair Senator Julius Murgor condemned Mbadi’s repeated absence, stating that Cabinet-level decisions can only be addressed with the Cabinet Secretary himself present.
  • Vice chair Senator George Mbugua pledged persistent oversight, affirming: “Even if it takes two years … we will not relent until justice is served.”
  • enator Enock Wambua (Kitui) emphasized that appearing before Parliament is a constitutional duty—not a favour. He added pointedly that Mbadi, as a former MP, should understand this better than most.
  • Mbadi already faces a potential KSh 500,000 fine for twice skipping Senate appearances. Further failure to attend the August 20 session could trigger sanctions, including arrest or referral to parliamentary disciplinary action.
  • Both CS Mbadi and CS Oparanya are set to face the Senate committee at 10:00 AM.
  • Thousands of elderly retirees and former public servants are facing severe financial hardship due to legal and systemic delays.

  • Parliament’s insistence on Cabinet-level accountability underscores the importance of executive responsiveness in public-sector pension administration.

  • The situation underscores gaps in the implementation of long-standing committee resolutions—some dating back to 2018 or earlier.

Harambee Stars’ historic 1–0 win over DR Congo

This was Kenya’s opening game in Group A of the CHAN 2024 tournament.

They faced two-time champions DR Congo, making the result a monumental upset

In the second minute of added time in the first half, midfielder Austin Odhiambo sliced through Congo’s defence and scored with a calm finish into the bottom-right corner

The goal came after a clever passing move: Daniel Sakari initiated play, found David Sakwa, who in turn released Odhiambo, who then beat Magloire Kalonji and slotted the ball past Brudel Liyongo

This goal was not just a match-winner—it was Kenya’s first-ever goal in CHAN history, and the 420th goal ever scored in the tournament, with Kasarani becoming the 29th CHAN venue to witness a goal

DR Congo thought they had taken the lead within the first five minutes via a powerful strike from Jephthe Bola, but VAR overturned it due to a foul on Kenyan captain Abud Omar, much to the relief of the home crowd

Kenya controlled possession—about 65% in the first half—and created several promising openings, while Congo held more shots overall but fewer on target

Alpha Onyango earned Man of the Match for his composed midfield performance alongside the youthful defensive midfielder Manzur Suleiman, who was deployed in midfield despite being a natural left-back

The defence, marshalled by captain Abud Omar, Daniel Sakari, Alphonse Omija, Sylvester Owino, and Zonal goalkeeper Byrne Omondi, held firm under pressure—especially in the final minutes of stoppage time

The stadium was packed with Kenyan fans, and when Odhiambo scored, it ignited bedlam: roaring celebrations from home supporters and stunned quiet from the visiting fans

Political leaders, including President William Ruto, who attended the match, and other dignitaries backed the team enthusiastically. Each player received a KSh 1 million bonus for the win, as pledged by Ruto and later amplified by other sponsors

Coach Benni McCarthy, in his first competitive win since taking charge in March, praised the team’s ability to overcome nerves and stay disciplined under pressure

He explained the unconventional midfield pairing: Suleiman in defensive midfield behind Onyango and Odhiambo, designed to break up play and provide cover for advancing attackers.

Kenya now turns their focus to Angola in their next Group A fixture on Thursday, August 7, at Kasarani—with a 7pm kickoff expected.
