Arsenal Edge Past Manchester United with Narrow 1-0 Victory

Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over rivals Manchester United in a thrilling clash that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The game, played at a packed stadium, lived up to its billing as one of the most anticipated fixtures in the Premier League calendar.

The Gunners showed dominance in possession and composure in midfield, with their quick passing and pressing game unsettling United’s rhythm. The breakthrough came in the second half when Arsenal capitalized on a defensive lapse, slotting in the decisive goal that sent the Emirates fans into wild celebrations.

Manchester United, however, were not without their chances. Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes both came close, but Arsenal’s solid defense and an inspired goalkeeper performance ensured that the Red Devils left empty-handed.

This result strengthens Arsenal’s title ambitions, proving once again that Mikel Arteta’s side is capable of grinding out results in tough encounters. For United, it was yet another frustrating night as questions continue to be raised about their consistency and ability to compete at the highest level.

The victory means Arsenal gain three crucial points in the race for the top spots, while United will need to bounce back quickly to avoid losing further ground.

Kenya vs Zambia – The Battle for Group A Glory!

The CHAN 2024 Group A clash between Kenya and Zambia is set for Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.

This marks a significant moment, as it will be one of the first major competitive international matches hosted at the newly refurbished Uhuru Park since its transformation into a multi-purpose public and events venue. The match carries high stakes for both teams — Kenya will be looking to secure crucial points to keep their qualification hopes alive, while Zambia aims to strengthen their grip on the top spot in the group.

Security and crowd management are expected to be under heavy scrutiny after CAF recently fined the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over safety breaches during the Morocco fixture at Kasarani, warning that non-compliance could force Kenya to host matches elsewhere.

Fan interest is already high, and with Uhuru Park’s central location, a massive turnout is anticipated, potentially setting a new attendance record for the revamped venue.

CAF Slaps FKF with $50,000 Fine Over Kasarani Safety Lapses

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) USD 50,000 (approximately KSh 6.5 million) following multiple safety and security breaches during the CHAN 2024 qualifier between Kenya and Morocco at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The breaches reportedly included overcrowding, poor crowd control, and failure to ensure adequate emergency and evacuation protocols, posing risks to both fans and players.

In addition to the fine, CAF has issued a stern warning to FKF: if Kenya fails to improve safety standards at future home fixtures, the country risks having its matches moved to alternative venues outside Kenya.

The incident comes just days after CAF froze ticket sales for all upcoming games at Kasarani until safety improvements are implemented. The move has sparked debate among fans and stakeholders over stadium management, with many calling for urgent reforms to ensure spectator safety.

The FKF is yet to release an official statement addressing the fine and outlining corrective measures ahead of Kenya’s upcoming home match against Zambia.

CHAOS AT KASARANI: CAF FREEZES TICKET SALES AMID SAFETY FAILURES

Shockwaves rippled through Kenyan football on Sunday, August 10, 2025, when serious safety and security breaches marred the Harambee Stars’ highly anticipated CHAN Group A match against Morocco. Fans—frustrated and outraged—breached a gate, stormed into the stadium, and overcrowded the venue, even gaining unauthorized access to the media centre. Tear gas was deployed in a grim attempt to manage the chaos.

By Monday, August 11, CAF had acted: ticket sales for all upcoming fixtures at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani—including the looming Kenya vs Zambia clash on Sunday, August 17—were suspended indefinitely. The venue was conspicuously removed from the ticketing platform, signaling CAF’s serious response.

  • Many holding what appeared to be valid tickets were denied entry—apparently because their tickets had already been scanned.

  • Allegations emerged that individuals were buying tickets in bulk and reselling counterfeit copies to unsuspecting fans.

  • Reports indicate fake tickets were sold for between Sh300 and Sh1,000, while official prices ranged from Sh200 (regular) to Sh500 (VIP) and Sh1,000 (VVIP).

  • CAF’s Sanctions & Mounting Pressure

This isn’t the first warning for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). CAF had already penalized FKF Ksh2.5 million for previous lapses in crowd control. The Morocco match incidents escalated concerns, prompting CAF’s disciplinary and safety committees to launch an immediate investigation.

Harambee Stars’ historic 1–0 win over DR Congo

This was Kenya’s opening game in Group A of the CHAN 2024 tournament.

They faced two-time champions DR Congo, making the result a monumental upset

In the second minute of added time in the first half, midfielder Austin Odhiambo sliced through Congo’s defence and scored with a calm finish into the bottom-right corner

The goal came after a clever passing move: Daniel Sakari initiated play, found David Sakwa, who in turn released Odhiambo, who then beat Magloire Kalonji and slotted the ball past Brudel Liyongo

This goal was not just a match-winner—it was Kenya’s first-ever goal in CHAN history, and the 420th goal ever scored in the tournament, with Kasarani becoming the 29th CHAN venue to witness a goal

DR Congo thought they had taken the lead within the first five minutes via a powerful strike from Jephthe Bola, but VAR overturned it due to a foul on Kenyan captain Abud Omar, much to the relief of the home crowd

Kenya controlled possession—about 65% in the first half—and created several promising openings, while Congo held more shots overall but fewer on target

Alpha Onyango earned Man of the Match for his composed midfield performance alongside the youthful defensive midfielder Manzur Suleiman, who was deployed in midfield despite being a natural left-back

The defence, marshalled by captain Abud Omar, Daniel Sakari, Alphonse Omija, Sylvester Owino, and Zonal goalkeeper Byrne Omondi, held firm under pressure—especially in the final minutes of stoppage time

The stadium was packed with Kenyan fans, and when Odhiambo scored, it ignited bedlam: roaring celebrations from home supporters and stunned quiet from the visiting fans

Political leaders, including President William Ruto, who attended the match, and other dignitaries backed the team enthusiastically. Each player received a KSh 1 million bonus for the win, as pledged by Ruto and later amplified by other sponsors

Coach Benni McCarthy, in his first competitive win since taking charge in March, praised the team’s ability to overcome nerves and stay disciplined under pressure

He explained the unconventional midfield pairing: Suleiman in defensive midfield behind Onyango and Odhiambo, designed to break up play and provide cover for advancing attackers.

Kenya now turns their focus to Angola in their next Group A fixture on Thursday, August 7, at Kasarani—with a 7pm kickoff expected.

President Ruto promises to give Harambee Stars players Sh600 million

if they qualify for 2024 CHAN final, Sh1 million per player for every game won

President William Ruto, ahead of Kenya’s opening CHAN 2024 match on Sunday, August 3, 2025 (but scheduled under the tournament name “CHAN 2024”), delivered a generous incentive package to the Harambee Stars during a breakfast meeting on August 2, 2025

  • KSh 1 million to each player and technical staff member for every match won

  • KSh 500,000 for each draw

  • KSh 60 million if Kenya reaches the quarterfinals

  • KSh 70 million for reaching the semifinals

  • KSh 600 million if they win the tournament

The announcement marks one of the largest incentive packages in Kenyan football history

It came just one day before Kenya’s first match against DR Congo at Moi International Sports Centre (Kasarani), Nairobi

The incentive is in addition to official CAF prize money, which awards KSh 452.2 million to the CHAN champions, offering a potential combined payday of over 1 billion Kenyan shillings for the team

President Ruto Hosts Harambee Stars for Breakfast Ahead of CHAN 2024

President William Ruto on Friday morning held a special breakfast meeting with the Harambee Stars at State House, Nairobi, ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The gesture was a show of support and encouragement for the national team as they gear up to represent Kenya on the continental stage.

During the meeting, President Ruto emphasized the government’s commitment to revitalizing football in the country, not just through infrastructure development but also through direct support to players and technical staff. He urged the team to carry the nation’s pride and perform with discipline, resilience, and unity.

“You are not just playing for yourselves—you are playing for 50 million Kenyans who believe in you. Go out there, give your best, and make history,” said President Ruto.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials, and head coach Engin Firat were also present at the breakfast. Namwamba reaffirmed the ministry’s full backing for the team and praised the players for their dedication during the preparations.

Kenya is set to co-host the 2024 CHAN tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania, and the Harambee Stars are looking to make a strong impression on home soil.

The breakfast was not just symbolic—it served to motivate the players and remind them that the country stands solidly behind them. As the countdown to CHAN continues, the Harambee Stars will now head into their final training camp with renewed morale and determination.
