President Ruto Announces Compensation Framework for Protest Victims Since 2017

President William Ruto has unveiled a new government framework aimed at compensating civilians and security personnel who were injured or lost their lives during public demonstrations and protests across Kenya since 2017.

Speaking during a national address, the President stated that the initiative is part of a broader effort to promote healing, justice, and accountability in the country. The framework will cover incidents from 2017 onwards, a period marked by numerous protests related to elections, economic issues, and political grievances.

“This is a step toward restoring dignity to victims and their families, regardless of their political or social background,” President Ruto said, emphasizing that both civilians and security officers affected will be eligible for compensation.

Details on how the compensation process will be administered, including eligibility criteria and timelines, are expected to be released in the coming days through the Ministry of Interior and the Office of the Attorney General.
