A cloud of shock and grief hangs over Ojelo village in Rarieda sub-county after a horrifying incident where a 31-year-old man allegedly hacked his 6-year-old nephew to death. The suspect, identified as Denis Ouma Nyahinda, is currently detained at Aram Police Station as investigations continue.
According to local authorities, the young boy, Tyron Onyango, had traveled to visit his grandmother during this festive holiday season. Witnesses say Tyron was joyfully playing with other children in the homestead when Ouma reportedly stepped out and demanded that they stop making noise.
Despite the warning, the children continued playing, unaware of the danger that would follow. West Asembo Location Chief Wycliffe Odiango reported that the suspect suddenly emerged from his house armed with a panga. He is said to have chased Tyron all the way to his grandmother’s house before brutally attacking him.
The boy sustained deep cuts to the head and neck and died instantly from the injuries.
Residents of Ojelo village are still reeling from the violent act, many expressing disbelief that such a tragedy could occur within a family setting. Police have launched a thorough investigation to uncover the motive behind the attack.
The body of the young boy has been moved to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital Mortuary as the family, neighbours, and the entire community mourn the loss of a life cut heartbreakingly short.
This devastating incident serves as a reminder of the urgent need for mental health awareness, community vigilance, and stronger support systems to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
