President Ruto Announces Major Shake-Up in Military Leadership

June 28, 2025 – Nairobi, Kenya

President William Ruto has announced a significant reshuffle in the leadership of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), appointing new commanders to key positions in a move aimed at enhancing the operational readiness and strategic focus of the country’s military.

The changes, announced through a statement from the Office of the President and confirmed by the Ministry of Defence, are part of what officials described as a “strategic realignment” to address evolving regional security dynamics and improve internal efficiency across the KDF.

“These appointments reflect the trust we have in our senior officers’ capacity to safeguard our nation and provide visionary leadership for the forces,” the President noted.

Observers say the shake-up also serves to inject new energy into the military’s upper ranks and ensure continuity of command amid shifting threats across the Horn of Africa, including cross-border terrorism, cyber threats, and humanitarian missions.

The new commanders are expected to assume their roles immediately and will report to the Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla.
