Lilian Ng’ang’a Opens Up About Domestic Violence and Advocates for Change

Lilian Ng’ang’a, former First Lady of Machakos County, recently shared her personal experience with domestic violence. A visit to the doctor for a swollen eye prompted concerns about potential abuse, leading her to reflect on a past relationship where she endured physical violence. She recounted an incident where her then-boyfriend struck her in a club due to jealousy over another man’s gaze. Ng’ang’a emphasized the importance of recognizing and leaving toxic relationships, advising individuals to stay until they find the strength to move on and never look back.

In a previous statement, Ng’ang’a expressed heartbreak over the prevalence of domestic violence, highlighting the tragic case of athlete Agnes Tirop. She underscored that violence in any form within relationships should not be tolerated.

During her tenure in Machakos, Ng’ang’a advocated for the establishment of a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Centre. She noted that the center is under construction and aims to provide a safe space for victims of GBV.

Ng’ang’a’s openness about her experiences and her initiatives to combat domestic violence have been instrumental in raising awareness and offering support to victims.
