Who is at Blame?

Jamaican dancehall artist Shenseea’s performance at Nairobi’s Raha Fest on December 31, 2024, was abruptly cut short due to security concerns. The event turned chaotic when individuals without tickets breached the venue, leading security personnel to intervene with tear gas to control the crowd. Shenseea managed to perform only two songs before being escorted off the stage for her safety.

Following the incident, Shenseea expressed her frustration on social media, stating, “Now, Kenya, I’m a lil mad at y’all ngl!”

In response, many Kenyan fans apologized for the unfortunate events, expressing their disappointment and understanding of her reaction. Despite the setback, Shenseea continued to engage with her Kenyan audience, visiting local spots and sharing her experiences on social media.

The Raha Fest organizers have acknowledged the issues that led to the disruption and have apologized to attendees whose experience was affected by the chaos. They emphasized the need for reflection on the growing trend of ‘occupying’ events, where some individuals feel entitled to access without proper admission.
