Toxic Lyrikali Alleges Coercion at State House Event

Kenyan rapper Toxic Lyrikali has sparked a storm online after claiming he was forced to chant “Tutam” during a recent visit to State House — or risk “disappearing.”

In a fiery social media post, the outspoken Gengetone artist alleged that during a high-profile event, organisers pressured him and other performers to echo the political slogan. He claims he was told bluntly that “failure to join in” could have serious consequences, hinting at threats to his safety.

“They told me if I didn’t chant along, I might disappear. Imagine that — at State House!” Lyrikali wrote, adding a mix of shock and defiance.

While the “Tutam” slogan has been embraced by supporters of the current administration, Toxic Lyrikali’s comments have ignited debate about the blurred lines between art, politics, and personal freedom in Kenya’s music scene.

Some fans rallied behind him, praising his courage to speak out, while others questioned the timing of the allegations, suggesting it could be another publicity stunt in the run-up to new music releases.

State House has not issued an official response to the claims.

This controversy comes just days after Lyrikali’s public spat with fellow artist Tipsy Gee, further cementing his reputation as one of Kenya’s most outspoken — and polarising — entertainers.
