DP Kindiki Meets North Eastern MPs at His Karen Residence

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki recently welcomed a delegation of Members of Parliament from Kenya’s North Eastern region at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi. Although media coverage has highlighted similar sessions with Nairobi, Murang’a, and Mt. Kenya leaders the North Eastern meeting represents a continuation of DP Kindiki’s consultative push across diverse regions of the country.

In these sessions, discussions have consistently centered on accelerating the implementation of development programmes. For instance, the DP engaged Nairobi and Murang’a MPs in deliberations focused on rolling out priority projects in those counties n the Mt. Kenya engagement, attention shifted to advancing infrastructure such as roads, irrigation dams, and revitalised agricultural value chains—ranging from tea and coffee to miraa and muguka

Pre-launch inspection of projects: To avoid public embarrassment due to stalled or unfinished initiatives, Kindiki vowed to personally oversee development projects before they’re officially launched

End-to-end financing: Emphasizing accountability, he underscored the importance of securing full funding for projects before presidential inauguration

Protection of presidential reputation: The DP stressed the need to shield President Ruto from ridicule that arises when projects are launched prematurely

If we apply the same rigorous, development-centered approach to the North Eastern engagement, it likely included consultations on critical regional needs—such as water infrastructure, energy access, education facilities, and livelihood enhancement programs.

These meetings go beyond development. They form part of Kindiki’s broader strategy to solidify his political base and assert regional influence—especially in the wake of internal coalition dynamics with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Gachagua has accused Kindiki of using these gatherings as mobilization tools ahead of the 2027 elections, rather than purely focusing on development Kindiki, in turn, has defended the forums, urging critics to forgo “cheap politics” and prioritise Kenya’s path to transformation
