The Kenyan media fraternity and members of the public came together in early May to honor the late veteran radio personality Edward Kwach through a series of memorial fundraisers held at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi. The fundraisers, organized by family and close friends, aimed to help clear a medical bill of KSh 4.2 million and support funeral expenses following Kwach’s untimely death from meningitis.
Kwach passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, while undergoing treatment at Coptic Hospital in Nairobi. His passing shocked many across the country, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, fans, and celebrities who remembered him as one of Kenya’s most iconic radio voices.
Fundraiser and Contribution Details
The memorial fundraisers were held over two days—Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6—from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at All Saints Cathedral. The events provided an opportunity for friends, colleagues, and members of the public to come together, share memories, and offer financial support to Kwach’s family.

For those unable to attend in person, the family provided a Paybill number (8065131), allowing Kenyans from all walks of life to contribute using mobile money. Supporters were encouraged to use their names as the account number when making donations.
The goal was to help the family offset the significant hospital bill and give Kwach a dignified send-off befitting his legacy in the Kenyan media industry.
Memorial Service and Final Rites
A solemn memorial service was held on Thursday, May 8, also at All Saints Cathedral, where family members, industry colleagues, and fans gathered to reflect on Kwach’s life and legacy. Emotional tributes from radio personalities, including Maina Kageni and Nick Odhiambo, described him as “a legend,” “a mentor,” and “a man with a voice that could fill a room.”
Following the service, Kwach’s body was transported from Nairobi to his family home in Simenya, Homa Bay County, on Friday, May 9. He was laid to rest on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
A Lasting Legacy
Edward Kwach was known for his vibrant career across several top media houses, including Kiss FM, Capital FM, Homeboyz Radio, Nation FM, EA FM, and Spice FM. His deep voice, sharp wit, and undeniable talent made him a household name and earned him admiration from both peers and fans.
He was more than just a voice on the radio—he was a trendsetter, mentor, and pillar of Kenyan urban culture during the golden era of FM radio. Colleagues praised his authenticity and his contribution to shaping the tone of entertainment radio in Kenya.
Nick Odhiambo, one of his closest friends in the industry, paid tribute to him in a heartfelt post: “The Voice! The Man! The Legend! Your story is eternal, Kwach. Rest well, my brother.”
Final Word
The outpouring of love and support during the fundraiser and memorial events reflected the powerful impact Edward Kwach had on those around him. While he may no longer be behind the microphone, his voice—and his legacy—live on in the hearts of many Kenyans.
For those who still wish to support the family, contributions via the Paybill number remain open. The family continues to express gratitude for the solidarity shown by Kenyans during this difficult time.
